Number of servings

Ingredients

  • 3.5 Sunkist Navel oranges
  • 2 teaspoons matcha powder
  • 60 ml hot water
  • 1 teaspoon sugar

Orange bobas Ingredients

  • 1/2 Sunkist Navel oranges
  • 60g tapioca starch
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • Few drops of orange food coloring (Optional)

Directions

  1. Juice half an orange.
  2. Mix half of the orange juice with 3 tablespoons tapioca starch and sugar.
  3. Pour it into a small container and cook over medium-low heat until it thickens (or microwave for 30 seconds).
  4. Pour it into a bowl, then add the remaining orange juice and food coloring. Add the tapioca starch in batches and knead it into a non-sticky dough (if it is too dry, slowly add in small amounts of hot water, if it is too wet, add tapioca starch).
  5. Flatten the dough and cut into 1cm x 1cm pieces, and shape them into boba pearls.
  6. Lightly coat the bobas with tapioca starch in a large bowl (to prevent sticking).
  7. Put the orange bobas into boiling water and cook until they float. Once they float, cook for another 30 seconds.
  8. Transfer the orange bobas to ice water (to make them chewier).
  9. Juice the remaining Navel oranges.
  10. Add hot water to the matcha powder and whisk until there are no powder particles.
  11. Combine sugar and a little hot water. Stir until dissolved.
  12. Add the orange bobas, orange juice, ice cubes and matcha. Enjoy!

    Tips:
    • You can make more orange bobas in one go, freeze them in the refrigerator, and cook the bobas right before enjoying the beverage.
    • Avoid using boiling water to make matcha. High temperature will destroy the nutritional and antioxidant effects of matcha. The recommended water temperature is 80 degrees or below.
